Our Philosophy on Surf Wax

From Our Founder

The sea has always been my happy place. Growing up on the Cornish coast, I spent most of my time surfing, tennis coaching and working as a beach lifeguard, always outdoors, always close to the ocean. Travelling and working overseas, from coral conservation in Brunei to teaching in Thailand, showed me just how fragile our oceans really are.

While in Thailand, I discovered Lemongrass House, a spa brand using pure, plant-based ingredients, and brought it to the UK in 2018. But one thing still didn’t sit right every time I surfed: wax. Most surf wax is still made from petrochemicals. So, working with Lemongrass House, I co-created Rad Wax, a high-performance, plant-based surf wax that grips brilliantly without harming the sea. I’m proud it’s now used by Team England’s Surf Team and gives surfers a better option when they want to feel confident in their wax and not harm the planet.

Our Team

Rad Wax is led by founder Kate Richards, a Cornish surfer driven by a commitment to performance, sustainability and community. We are a small, hands-on team working closely with surfers, retailers, students, ambassadors and partners who share our values. From product development to events and education, everything we do is grounded in real surf experience and a collective belief that the industry can do better for the ocean and for future generations.

Our Clean Ingredients

Our wax is made from 100% natural ingredients sourced from sustainable, ethical farms across Southeast Asia. A mix of fruit waxes, nut butters and oils, and tree resins.
Fruit Wax

A blend of sustainably sourced fruit waxes make up our formulas, free of paraffin and toxic scents. Ingredients are ethically sourced from farms in Southeast Asia.

Nut Butters and Oils

We blend coconut and sesame so that our wax applies to your board smoothly. No fillers like limestone are used to ensure longer lasting wax.

Tree Resins

The tree resins we use are byproducts that are usually disregarded by the cosmetic industry. Being too sticky for their products, we repurpose them to enhance your board's grip.
